Christianity and Islam Is There A Moral Equivalency?
For those who would wish to argue for a moral equivalency between Christianity and
Islam, let me lay down a simple challenge. In the name of Allah and the Koran, nearly
each day we read about victims somewhere in the world who are blown up, maimed,
kidnapped or beheaded by radical Muslims. This is common knowledge. The challenge
is this: if there is a moral equivalency between Christianity and Islam, all I ask is
reasonable documentation of radical Christians blowing up, maiming, kidnapping or
beheading anyone in the name of Christ and the Bible anywhere. Im absolutely sure
the challenge will not be taken because no such activity exists.
The first response to attempt to blunt the horror of radical Muslim atrocities is always
this: well, that doesnt represent most of the Muslim world. I couldnt agree more. But
that isnt the point. What radical Muslims are doing in the name of Allah and the Koran
is the point. Just read what these folks are saying on their websites. Where are the
radical Christians who are doing the same? Where is the moral equivalency?
Then there are always those who will trot out the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition,
etc. For these there is no excuse. Period. We will not mention, of course, the bloody
conquest of Christian North Africa by Muslim armies after Islam appeared on the scene
in the AD 600s. Historically there have been enough atrocities to go around on both
sides. Im talking about today not centuries ago. Where is the moral equivalency?
Just think about this. If what I am saying in this letter were expressed publicly in Saudi
Arabia, the best I could expect would be imprisonment. The worst would be death. In
Muslim lands it is not uncommon for homes and churches and businesses to be burned
because it is rumored that something negative has been said about the Koran. Where is
the moral equivalency with Christianity? When was the last time anyone was persecuted
in the US for saying something critical about Christianity? The fact is its always open
season for that.
